Younger People with Dementia deliver support groups throughout the year to bring carers together, allowing them to share their experiences and support one another.
Connecting Carers Group
Our main way of carer support is Connecting Carers, which is an informal group which offers the opportunity to pass on advice and provide support. This is usually run by one of our area managers, who provide different external speakers to attend each session to provide appropriate services and information.
While the Connecting Carers Group takes place, our team of support workers offer a separate group for their loved ones with young onset dementia which includes an activity such as arts and crafts or multi sports. This means that carers and their loved ones benefit from support. We always aim to tailor these groups to best suit the individuals who sign up.

The Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) and Posterior Cortical Atrophy (PCA) Carer Groups
Our charity supports a number of carers who are looking after someone with a rarer form of dementia, such as FTD and PCA. Because of this and the differing needs involved, we offer a dedicated regional support group for carers with a loved one with either of these rarer dementias. We collaborate closely with Rare Dementia Support to provide these groups.

The Stronger Together Group
When carers reach the stage where their loved one with young onset dementia has either had to enter long-term care or has passed away, the Stronger Together Group is there to provide support through social gatherings and regular activities during the year.

The Younger People with Dementia Carer Group on Facebook
We also offer a private online group to join on Facebook which is exclusively for carers of a loved one with young onset dementia. It offers the chance for carers to post questions, support one another and be part of a like-minded group of people going through a shared experience.

Made by carers, for carers
The carers for the YPWD Surrey Heath group put this handbook together aimed at new carers who find themselves at the start of their dementia journey. The point is to provide signposts of where to get help whether in a social care section of a local government, or from medical professionals, as well as community groups like YPWD.
