About us
We are YPWD and our charity provides support services throughout the working week to people with dementia who are diagnosed under the age of 65. We support families from as early as in their 30’s, who never could have foreseen that they would be living with a progressive disease so early on in their lives. Dementia does not discriminate.

Younger People with Dementia, also known as YPWD, is a registered charity that was established in 2012 to fill a gap in services. Traditional dementia services are designed to meet the needs of older adults and are not always appropriate for younger people who are typically more active, have significant financial commitments like mortgages and may be supporting young children, or older children at university.
Our charity provides a safe and fun environment, reducing loneliness, promoting confidence, boosting mood and offering a helping hand to not just the person with dementia, but their loved ones who are coming to terms with the illness.

The support we provide is for families living in South East England, currently in Berkshire, Surrey Heath, Farnham, North East Hampshire and Woking. Our services include one to one support, carer and children’s groups, social events, education and training and activity-based workshops. Examples of the meaningful and age-appropriate activities we run throughout the week are katakanuing, equine therapy, pottery painting and walking groups, and these are free of charge.
