Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST)
Younger People with Dementia deliver Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) sessions which are run specifically for people diagnosed with young onset dementia.
In the absence of finding a cure for dementia, a priority for our charity is improving the care and quality of life for people diagnosed. This is why we have invested time into training our team to lead CST courses. CST is an evidence-based therapy that targets cognitive and social function which can lead to improvements in cognitive function and quality of life for people with dementia. The key principles of CST are to stimulate language and cognitive functioning, while providing a person-centred, inclusive and fun environment. The sessions are designed to continually encourage new thoughts, ideas and associations for the participants. Each individual session has its own theme and activities, such as physical games, word association or current affairs.
It is recommended that people with mild / moderate dementia of all types should participate in a structured group cognitive stimulation programme.
This course will typically take place over the span of 14 weeks, with one session per week.
