We are pleased to let you know about new services that are being developed for carers of people with young onset dementia. We recently met with Hazel May, Dementia Carers Services Lead, from the RSAS. They are currently developing the RSAS Dementia Carers Centre. The Centre will be a major innovation in the way family and friends can get the support they need to enhance their caring skills, access information and receive social therapeutic interventions.
She said that they are looking for family carers of people with dementia to take part in their new three-day residential support programmes. These are being held in different hotel venues in Birmingham, Solihull and Wiltshire. They are developing a new approach to carer support, where carers come together in small groups to share their experiences of caring in a friendly, supportive environment with others who are going through the same thing.
During the programmes carers enjoy some down time, learn more about themselves and about dementia, build confidence in their caring skills, and learn how to find local support and plan ahead.
Hazel confirmed that two of the courses that they are holding are specifically for those living with young onset dementia and these are taking place on the following dates/locations:
February 27th - March 1st 2018, Eaton Hotel, 279 Hagley Road Edgbaston, Birmingham B16 9NB
27th - 29th April 2018, St. Johns Hotel, 651 Warwick Road, Solihull, Birmingham B91 1AT
